Hello Haines Junction,
Today, it is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of the process to rewrite the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.
An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a municipality’s primary policy planning document that outlines how land will be used and guides future growth and change within the community. In addition to this, OCP’s provide a framework to fulfill community goals, enhance community strengths, and address the challenges and issues relating to the future use and development of land within a community. Of particular importance, an OCP must establish a benchmark for measuring progress and change over time and seamlessly communicate with other regulatory bylaws and guidance documents (i.e. growth strategies, zoning bylaw, etc.). Collectively, a community’s OCP and zoning bylaw must:
1. Facilitate collaboration between departmental service areas;
2. Integrate the community as a whole and development activities;
3. Effectively link the OCP to other regulatory documents; and
4. Include the mandatory OCP requirements as stipulated by Yukon Government.
Over the next 12 months, a series of community engagement activities will be hosted throughout the community. A detailed work plan will be made available once confirmed. Please stay tuned for more information!
