The park is administered in Haines Junction and is co-managed with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

Opportunities to experience the park

Much of the park consists of massive peaks with valleys deep in glacial ice, inaccessible except for the most experienced mountaineers. It was created as a wilderness park and only basic facilities have been developed; there are no major roads through the park. Limited vehicle access is possible at three locations: Kathleen Lake, Sheep Mountain and Mush Lake. Flightseeing opportunities from Haines Junction afford views into the heart of the park.

Bordering the ice age landscape is a greenbelt that is accessible in many ways to visitors of different ages, abilities and interests. There are a number of opportunities to experience this landscape: easy walks, day hikes, extended backpack trips, camping, canoeing, river rafting, and skiing in the winter. Some of these opportunities are covered in the Do It Yourself and Recreation Tourism Businesses sections.
