Ski Touring/Telemark Skiing

Cottonwood Trail Ski Loop (85 km loop)

• good in late February, March and April
• challenging route that requires winter camping and route-finding skills
• trailhead: Kathleen Lake, 27 km south of Haines Junction on the Haines Road

Chilkat Pass area (140 km south of Haines Junction on the Haines Highway)

• An exceptional backcountry ski area for day and overnight trips– a vast area with great terrain and deep snow.

Mount Decoeli area (25 km north of Haines Junction on the Alaska Highway)

• This area near Bear Creek Summit is a short drive north of Haines Junction– another backcountry skier’s dream; good for both day and overnight trips.
